Meghalaya Minimum Wages 2021

Meghalaya Minimum Wages has been revised by the Labour Department of Government of Meghalaya.

On 25th October, 2021 via notification number: LBG 75/2012/406 in continuation of Labour Department notification number: LBG 75/2012/393 dated 16th November, 2020, the Governor of Meghalaya revised the minimum wages payable to employees under the 29th schedule of employments effective from 1st April, 2021.

The skill-wise minimum wages has been provided in the below table. (All values in rupees)

All the establishment requested to pay the arrear minimum wages to their employees from April, 2021 to October, 2021 to ensure proper compliance under the provision of Minimum Wages Act.

Short Brief about Minimum Wages

What is Minimum Wages?

Minimum Wages is the minimum amount of money any employer need to pay to the employee or worker for his service or labour for a specific time for example hourly basis, daily basis or monthly basis etc.

Every state has its own applicable Minimum wages rate as per different categories of work and skill of the employee or worker.

How Minimum Wages is calculated?

In general, minimum wages is calculated by dividing gross monthly wages by 30 days and the weekly offs are considered as paid leaves. So, that you can get the per day wages.

Or the daily wages of the employee multiplied by 30 days also give you the same minimum wages payable to the employee for a month.

The minimum wages calculation system may very state by state.

What will happen if employer doesn’t pay the Minimum wages?

Getting minimum wages is the basic right of the employee or labour. If any employer refuse to pay the minimum wages under the provision of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, it will be treated as criminal offense and employer might have to pay penalties under the penal provision of the said act.
