UGC Guideline on Online & Distance Learning: Good News for Students

UGC Guideline on Online Open and Distance Learning: University Grants Commission bringing good news to all students seeking Degrees, post Graduation Diploma via online, distance and correspondence mode.

University Grants Commission published official notification on 2nd September, 2022 vide notification number F. No: 3-5/2022(DEB III).

According to the latest UGC Guideline, Degrees and Post Graduation Diploma awarded through Online, Distance or Correspondence mode recognized by commission shall be treated as equivalent to the courses obtained via conventional or regular mode.

University Grants Commission (UGC)

Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India set up a statutory body to regulate the Universities in India in accordance with the UGC Act, 1956 called University Grants Commission.

At the initial stage of UGC formation in 1945, it only oversee the work of 3 Central University in India i.e Aligarh, Banaras and Delhi.

But in later stage in 1947 the responsibility of University Grants Commission extended to look after the Universities of whole India.

In November 1956 the UGC became a statutory body upon the passing of the “University Grants Commission Act, 1956” by the Indian Parliament.

The headquarter of University Grants Commission located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi. In 1994 and 1995 the UGC decentralized its operations by setting up six regional centres situated at Pune, Bhupal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Guwahati.

UGC provide recognition to Universities and Colleges spreading all over the country provide funds to such recognized Universities and Colleges for expansion and addition of various courses and infrastructure.

In February 2022 M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as the chairman of the UGC,a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi.

Prior to that, he was working as the vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), from 2016 to 2022.
